Clement Toh

I am a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate at the National University of Singapore (NUS), specializing in the intersection of high-precision hardware and real-time industrial data.

Currently, as a Mechatronics Engineering Intern at JD Union, I focus on physical hardware integration and engineering validation testing (EVT) for Class 4 laser systems. My work bridges mechanical chassis design with sensitive optomechatronic hardware, engineering heavy-duty test infrastructures and optimizing complex thermal and cable routing requirements.

Previously, I built end-to-end telemetry pipelines for A*STAR (ARTC) to monitor metal 3D printers using InfluxDB and Grafana. Whether I am designing precise mechanical assemblies or routing custom IIoT sensor instrumentation, my goal is to build systems that are mechanically robust and highly data-driven.

Professional Experience

JD Union Pte. Ltd.

Engineer Intern - Advanced Motion & Vision Control for Laser Micro-Processing

  • Executed rigorous quality control and engineering validation testing (EVT) on Class 4 laser (LUXINAR CO2); utilized microscopy to inspect Quartz Block Head (QBH) fiber optics to prevent window failure.
  • Engineered and commissioned a heavy-duty mobile industrial test infrastructure (>250kg capacity) using SolidWorks, bridging the gap between mechanical chassis design and physical hardware integration.
  • Integrated sensitive laser control components, including an IPG Ytterbium Fibre Laser and NANIO Air Power Supply, optimizing complex cable routing and thermal dissipation to support vision systems.
Jun 2026 - Aug 2026

Singapore Armed Forces (Armour Simulation Wing)

Systems Operator (National Service)

  • Operated and maintained advanced military simulation systems, including a synchronized network of cabins.
  • Collaborated closely with defense engineering firms to troubleshoot hardware-software integrations and maintain system fidelity.
  • Optimized system uptime and performance, directly contributing to a significant reduction in physical live-fire training costs and enhanced operational safety.
May 2023 - May 2025

Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (A*STAR)

Systems Integration & Development Engineering Intern

  • Programmed Python scripts to execute EPL network packet-sniffing by hardware-tapping the Industrial PC, validating electro-mechanical interactions via synchronized in-situ spectrometer with recoater blade.
  • Engineered an embedded firmware architecture using an M5Stack edge-device (C++/Platform.io), querying an InfluxDB database via custom Flux scripts to automate real-time alerts.
  • Designed and built hardware-software test setups, safely routing a 12-channel NI DAQ and acoustic emission sensors to characterize process parameters.
